World Council of Houses of the Azores to meet in Brazil

The 25th General Assembly of the World Council of Houses of the Azores (CMCA) will be held in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, on December 1 and 2 with the support of the Presidency of the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for the Communities. This annual meeting aims to promote dialogue and debate among the 16 Houses of the Azores in Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, the United States of America, Portugal and Uruguay. The meeting will be chaired by the President of the CMCA and President of the House of the Azores of Santa Catarina, Sérgio Luiz Ferreira, and by the Regional Director for the Communities, José Andrade, who will represent the President of the Regional Government. The World Council comprises the Houses of the Azores of Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro, Hilmar, Quebec, North, São Paulo, New England, Ontario, Winnipeg, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Uruguay, Bermuda, Maranhão and Madeira, as well as the most recent, the House of the Azores of the State of Espírito Santo, founded in 2022, which is still following the works as an observer. It should be noted that the Regional Directorate for the Communities marked the 25th anniversary of the World Council of Houses of the Azores with a session held last year in the city of Horta. Established on November 13, 1997, on the island of Faial, the CMCA aims to promote and develop activities that contribute to the affirmation of the Azores and their diaspora in the world as well as the development of social, cultural and economic relations between the archipelago and the regions where each House of the Azores is located. The presidency of the Council is held annually by each House of the Azores that makes up this body, under the terms of its statutes, with the general assembly meeting being held in the respective host community.
