The Vice-Presidency of the Government promotes the Meeting Azores-Brazil
The Vice-Presidency of the Regional Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for the Communities, promotes a Azores-Brazil Meeting, on October 14th, Thursday, in Ponta Delgada, dedicated to a testimony exchange between Azoreans in Brazil and Brazilians in the Azores.
This event, presided by the Vice-President of the Government, Artur Lima, will bring to light the testimonies of institutions from the Region and from Brazil that work towards the Azorean identity preservation in several Brazilian states and the inclusion of Brazilians in the Azores.
This session takes place at the Palace of Conceição, in Ponta Delgada and will be livestreamed on the official webpage of the Regional Directorate for the Communities on the social media Facebook, starting at 5pm local time, four hours less in Brazil.
The first panel, dedicated to the “Azoreans in Brazil”, will include the intervention of Rui Faria, president of the Azorean Emigrants’ Association (AEA) and the testimony exchange of the representatives of the Houses of Azores based in Brazil, namely Fernado Fagundes (Rio de Janeiro), António Arruda (São Paulo), Orlando Silva (Bahia), Sérgio Luiz Ferreira (Santa Catarina), Viviane Hunter (Rio Grande do Sul) and Paulo Matos (Maranhão).
The contributions for the second panel, on the subject “Brazilians in the Azores”, will be made by Leoter Viegas, vice-president of the Association of Immigrants in the Azores (AIPA), by Inésia Pontes, executive director of CREASAÇOR/ Migrant Support Office and by Jairo Silva, president of the Association of Brazilian Immigrants in the Azores (ASIBA).
Brazil was the first destination for the Azorean emigration, more than 400 years ago, and it is the foreign nationality more represented in the immigration to the Azores, with more than 800 Brazilian citizens residing officially on the different islands.
