The Regional Government of the Azores supports institutions and projects in the area of the communities
The Vice-Presidency of the Regional Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for the Communities, has granted a new set of financial supports, in the total amount of 66 thousand euros, to contribute for the activities developed by 16 representative institutions from the Azorean diaspora.
These new supports granted by decree from the Vice-President of the Government, Artur Lima, are part of the protocols established with several institutions from the United States of America, Canada, Brasil, Bermuda, Uruguay and Portugal.
Among the entities supported are the Houses of the Azores in Lisbon, Bermuda, Hilmar (California), Ontario, Maranhão and Rio Grande do Sul, as well as the social organizations Catholic Social Services, MAPS – Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers, Ser-Jobs For Progress, Immigrants Assistance Center and Centro Comunitário Amigos da Terceira (from USA), Working Women Community Centre, Mission Santa Cruz and Socio-community Centre of Montreal (from Canada).
Concerning the Houses of the Azores, the supports granted are intended to the development of activities that enhance and divulge the Region and its culture among the migrant and Azorean descendent communities. In what concerns the social organizations, the supports intend to co-fund programs that promote the social inclusion and life quality of the Azorean communities in several provinces and states of North America.
Within the protocols established, it was also granted financial support to the ASIBA – Association of Brazilian Immigrants in the Azores, for the development of sociocultural activities that promote the personal valorization and the integration of Brazilian immigrants, and the project “Bellis Azorica” of the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture from the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth, that consists of the publication of a book collection from Azorean authors, translated into English and to be edited in the USA and in the Azores.
In global, the Vice-Presidency of the Government of the Azores has already granted more than 216 thousand euros in financial supports to the Houses of the Azores, social institutions from the Azorean diaspora and projects that approach and develop activities in the area of the communities.
