The President of the Government meets the Azores Consular Corps
This month, the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Department for the Communities, promotes the first Azores Consular Meeting. The President of the Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, will chair the event that will occur on July, 14, Thursday, at Palácio da Conceição, in Ponta Delgada.
This meeting will gather the representatives of the accredited consular corps in the Autonomous Region of the Azores for an exchange of views on the current situation and the future perspectives from the foreign communities residing on the nine islands of the Azores.
According to Foreigners and Borders Service’s data, 4.480 foreign citizens from 95 different nationalities were living in the Azores in 2021, 25 of which have consular representation in the Region. Thus, the consular corps in the Azores is presently composed of the new United States of America consul, Margaret Campbell, the only career consul, and of 24 honorary consuls, namely: João Luís Cogumbreiro de Melo Garcia (Honorary Consul of Germany and Honorary Consul of Latvia), José Manuel Almeida Braz (Honorary Consul of Belgium), Catarina Lebens Cymbron (Honorary Consul of Brazil), Guilherme de Bruges Bettencourt (Honorary Consul of Cape Verde), and Melinda Caetano Stokreef (Honorary Consul of Canada). Ricardo Jorge de Medeiros do Nascimento Cabral (Honorary Consul of Czech Republic), António José Vasconcelos Franco Gomes de Menezes (Honorary Consul of Croatia), António de Andrade Albuquerque de Vasconcelos Rieff (Honorary Consul of Denmark), Carlos Alberto Soares Vilhena Andrade Botelho (Honorary Consul of Dominican Republic), Zuzana Pincáková da Silva Vieira (Honorary Consul of Slovakia), Manuel Silveira Gago da Câmara (Honorary Consul of Spain), Frederico José Moniz de Almeida Páscoa (Honorary Consul of Finland), Anne Brossard-Saillant (Honorary Consul of France), and António de Andrade Albuquerque Flores da Costa Santos (Honorary Consul of Greece) also comprise the consular corps. Likewise, José Romão Leite Braz (Honorary Consul of Holland), Camilo Augusto Alves dos Reis Eloi Moniz (Honorary Consul of Hungary), Thomas Rizzo (Honorary Consul of Italy), Leonel de Medeiros de Melo Cabral (Honorary Consul of Lithuania), Augusto de Albuquerque de Athayde (Honorary Consul of Malta), João Luís de Melo Oliveira (Honorary Consul of Norway), Christopher Noble (Honorary Consul of the United Kingdom), Nuno Rodrigues Bettencourt Raposo (Honorary Consul of Sweden), and Francisco Nuno da Câmara Teves (Honorary Consul of Turkey) will participate in the 1st Azores Consular Meeting.
