Regional Government promotes 2nd Azores-Brazil Genealogy Meeting
The Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, through the Regional Directorate for the Communities, promotes the 2nd Azores-Brazil Genealogy Meeting, in virtual format, next Wednesday, July 10.
This interactive and educational event aims to address genealogical themes common to the Azores and Brazil. It aims to reflect on and debate the historical complicity of representative names that were borne by Azorean couples more than 270 years ago and that are still preserved, particularly in the states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
The programme of the Azores-Brazil Genealogy Meeting includes speeches by three prestigious representatives of historical institutes with important work in this area in Brazil and the Azores, namely Diego de Leão Pufal, from the Historical and Geographical Institute of Rio Grande do Sul, Sérgio Luiz Ferreira, from the Historical and Geographical Institute of Santa Catarina, and Jorge Forjaz, representing the Historical Institute of Terceira Island.
The Regional Director for the Communities, José Andrade, will open and moderate the proceedings.
The broadcast, which is open to the public, can be followed via the “Azores Communities” page on Facebook, starting at 5 pm in the Azores and 2 pm in southern Brazil, with an estimated duration of 90 minutes, allowing interaction between participants and viewers through text message.
Aware of the importance of genealogy, the Regional Government continues to invest in initiatives of this kind, which greatly contribute to the knowledge and understanding of the history of the islands and their proximity to the Azorean diaspora.
The 1st Azores-Brazil Genealogy Meeting was held in 2021, also on the initiative of the Regional Directorate for the Communities, with the virtual participation of the same genealogists. The event was enthusiastically attended by many people of Azorean descent in different Brazilian states.
