Regional Government launches photo contest for Azorean communities
The Presidency of the Regional Government, through the Regional Directorate for the Communities, is promoting the “The Island and the World” photography contest, which aims to show the countries and cities of the world where Azoreans and Azorean descendants live.
The initiative, which has SATA Azores Airlines as partner, is aimed at Azoreans and their descendants who are 18 years or older and who have been living outside the Azores for at least five years. They are also required to be registered on the Azoreans in the World platform (https://acorianosnomundo.azores.gov.pt/).
Those interested should apply on an individual basis and submit up to five photos that portray and/or link aspects of Azorean culture to their current territory of residence.
The winner will be awarded an air ticket for two people, with departure from any of the airports outside the Region where SATA operates to one of the Azorean airports of their choice.
The competition jury will comprise Gabriela Pontes, president of the Azores Amateur Photographers’ Association, and professional photographers Luís Godinho, from Terceira Island, and Pepe Brix, from Santa Maria Island.
Applications should be submitted between June 1 and September 30, 2023, using the appropriate form, to the email address [email protected].
The rules, application form and other information are available for consultation on the Regional Directorate for the Communities page on the Azores Government Portal at https://bit.ly/45lAQ4Z.
The Azoreans in the World platform is aimed at anyone living outside the Azores Autonomous Region who meets at least one of the conditions set out in paragraphs 3 and 4 of Article 5 of the Regional Legislative Decree no. 18/2019/A, i.e. those who were born in the Azores, or who are of Azorean descent, or who have resided in the Azores for a minimum of five years, or who are the spouse or civil partner of the persons referred to above.
