Regional Advisory Council for Immigration Affairs met in Ponta Delgada

The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, chaired today the meeting of the Regional Advisory Council for Immigration Affairs, which took new steps towards the creation of an information-sharing platform between companies and associations supporting immigrants.   At the first meeting of 2023, held at Conceição Palace in Ponta Delgada, the President of the Government reminded that the Azores are a “welcoming community.” They are “always available” to welcome” immigrants in the Region – whether the reasons are economic or humanitarian, for example. The support provided to Ukrainian refugees and the decreasing number of deportations (from the United States and Canada) were some of the topics on the agenda. As regards the platform containing information for employers, the President of the Government stressed at the end of the meeting that it is expected to become operational by the end of the year. “We are a welcoming community. We have done so in all situations where migrations are motivated by economic or humanitarian reasons, or to flee from persecution or war. We have always been a welcoming community,” continued the President of the Government. “The Azores are today increasingly attractive in terms of immigration,” said José Manuel Bolieiro. The Regional Advisory Council for Immigration Affairs comprises, among others, the President of the Government, the Regional Directors for the Communities, Education and Social Solidarity, AIPA – Azores Immigrants’ Association, CRESAÇOR – Regional Cooperative for Solidarity Economy, AMRAA – Association of Municipalities of the Azores and SEF – Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service.
