Paulo Estêvão visits Azorean community in Winnipeg

The Regional Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, Paulo Estêvão, is visiting Winnipeg, Canada, between Friday and Sunday, as part of “Azores Cultural Week”, promoted by the city’s House of the Azores. Between Wednesday and Sunday, Winnipeg’s House of the Azores will be promoting a series of activities with various Azorean guests, with the aim of strengthening ties between that diaspora community and the Autonomous Region of the Azores. Folklore, cuisine, theater, music, lectures, book launches and other cultural activities draw the attention and appeal to the imagination not only of Winnipeg’s Azorean and Azordescendant community, but also of participants from diverse backgrounds. The House of the Azores of Winnipeg, initially called the Azorean Cultural Centre of Manitoba, was founded on September 13, 1992. It wasn’t until it joined the World Council of Houses of the Azores in 2001 that the organization took on the name House of the Azores of Winnipeg. The House of the Azores of Winnipeg aims to promote, preserve and disseminate Azorean culture locally and to create bridges that bring Azoreans living in that part of Canada ever closer to the Azores.
