Azores Brazil meeting reaches Pico and Faial

The Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, through the Regional Directorate for the Communities, is promoting another edition of the Azores Brazil Meeting, this time on the islands of Pico and Faial on October 14 and 15. The seventh edition of this initiative aims to boost the special historical relations between the Azores and Brazil. It will be promoted in a new format, with one session for secondary school students and another for the general public. On the island of Pico, the school session will be held on Monday, October 14, at the auditorium of Madalena Secondary School at 2:30 p.m. The public session will take place at Madalena Municipal Library at 6 p.m. On the island of Faial, the school session will take place on Tuesday, October 15, at the Horta Secondary School at noon. The session for the general public will be held at the João José da Graça Public Library and Regional Archive at 6 p.m. The four sessions will be attended by the Regional Director for the Communities, José Andrade, and the leaders of the Houses of the Azores of Rio de Janeiro, João Leonardo Soares, São Paulo, António Arruda, Santa Catarina, Sérgio Ferreira, Rio Grande do Sul, Viviane Peixoto Hunter, Maranhão, Paulo Matos, and Espírito Santo, Nino Moreira Serôdio. The two sessions for the general public also include the presentation of the new book “Somos Açores – Um arquipélago viva pelas ações das Casas os Açores no Brasil” by Brazilian journalist Igor Lopes. The first Azores Brazil Meeting took place in October 2021 in Ponta Delgada. The following five editions were held in Angra do Heroísmo (March 2022), Rio de Janeiro (July 2022), Florianópolis (December 2023), Ponta Delgada (May 2024) and Rio de Janeiro (September 2024), in association with other events. Brazil was the first destination for Azorean emigration and Brazilians are the largest immigrant community in the Azores. With the organisation of the Azores Brazil Meetings, the Regional Government aims to consolidate and promote the social, cultural and economic ties between the Region and the communities of Azorean descent in Brazil.
