Regional Government launches “Intercultural Poetry” literary contest for secondary school students in the Azores
The Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, has just launched the “Intercultural Poetry” literary contest, aimed at 10th and 11th grade students attending regional schools.
Promoted by the Regional Directorate for the Communities, this initiative aims to promote interaction and dialogue among different cultures in a school context through poetic expression, highlighting the writing of Azorean students, in the poetry genre, on themes such as multiculturalism, interculturalism and cultural diversity.
As part of this contest, prizes will be awarded to the author of the best literary work and the respective secondary school: a plane ticket for two people from the winner’s island of residence to any other in the Azores, and a selected set of books for the school library.
This literary prize was presented on March 21, 2024, at the Laranjeiras Secondary School in Ponta Delgada, during a session marking the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and World Poetry Day.
Interested students should submit their work to the contest by May 31, 2024. The only entries accepted are unpublished literary works in Portuguese, in the poetry genre, and each student may submit one or more texts.
Entries must be sent to the email [email protected] – they must be accompanied by the application form indicated in the contest rules.
