On Friday, the President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Bolieiro, said that the meeting organized with the University of the Azores and the University of Massachusetts – Lowell represents a “reform” in the executive’s relationship with the diaspora and the delegations that integrate these visits, and it will be possible to intensify partnerships in this field and in the area of \u200b\u200bscience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis government’s project is to make education and knowledge our main reason for development. In the Azores, in our islands, and in the relationship with the outside, namely in the host countries of our diaspora\u201d, he said, speaking after this \u201cfirst visit\u201d by the Government of the Azores to Lowell, where he was accompanied by the Regional Directors for the Communities and \u00a0External Cooperation, and also by the Dean of the University of the Azores, Susana Mira Leal, and by the President of the General Council of the University of the Azores, Elias Pereira.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, the Vice-President of the Government, who has the area of \u200b\u200bscience, is in charge of visits to schedule objectives and measure opportunities\u201d, added the President of the Government, for whom it is necessary to \u201cextend\u201d and \u201cstrengthen\u201d the proximity strategy by North American academies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to enhance this connection through science, research and technological innovation\u201d, added the head of government.<\/p>\n

Jos\u00e9 Manuel Bolieiro is the guest of honor at this year’s Great Feast of the Holy Ghost of New England, and the visit to the United States of America also includes political and economic contacts and concerning \u00a0higher education.<\/p>\n

In these days of work in the United States, in addition to participating in the festivities, the \u00a0presentation of the Bellis Azorica editorial project for the American edition of emblematic works of Azorean literature, and a visit to an exhibition evocative of the painter Domingos Rebelo, for example, \u00a0are also planned in New Bedford.<\/p>\n
