The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Bolieiro, chaired on Monday, in New Bedford, the presentation of six works of Azorean literature translated into English, an initiative supported by the Regional Government that “values the translation and identity” of the Azores.<\/p>\n

“I am extremely proud of all the authors that are now beginning to be translated here. They tell us a lot about what the identity reveals and depict a cosmopolitan and universalist mindset of Portuguese and Azorean thinkers,” stressed the President of the Government, who spoke at the presentation of the works of writers such as Vitorino Nem\u00e9sio and Raul Brand\u00e3o.<\/p>\n

“Commitment to knowledge and education” is a goal of the Regional Government, and, in this context, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Bolieiro believes the project presented on Monday “projects to the world” the Region’s “intellectual wealth.”<\/p>\n

“We are proud of the past, but equally focused on the future,” he also noted.<\/p>\n

Also in the cultural field, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Bolieiro visited an exhibition on Azorean painter Domingos Rebelo at the Whaling Museum.<\/p>\n

Jos\u00e9 Manuel Bolieiro ended on Monday a six-day official visit to the United States of America.<\/p>\n

Prior to visiting the Whaling Museum in New Bedford, the President of the Government met with the Governor of the State of Rhode Island, Daniel McKee.<\/p>\n

The last item on the agenda was the closing banquet of the Great Feast of the Holy Ghost of New England, an event where the President of the Government was the guest of honour.<\/p>\n

Besides the festivities, the visit to the United States had a political component, which included meetings with several leaders of Azorean descent, an economic component, with meetings with entrepreneurs, and an academic component, with the first days of the visit\u00a0marked by meetings promoted by the Government between the University of the Azores and US Universities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
