{"id":4178,"date":"2022-05-27T11:26:44","date_gmt":"2022-05-27T11:26:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portaldaacorianidade.azores.gov.pt\/?p=4178"},"modified":"2022-07-19T11:27:49","modified_gmt":"2022-07-19T11:27:49","slug":"government-wants-to-continue-to-strengthen-ties-with-the-usa-and-the-azorean-descent-communities-says-jose-manuel-bolieiro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/portaldaacorianidade.azores.gov.pt\/en\/government-wants-to-continue-to-strengthen-ties-with-the-usa-and-the-azorean-descent-communities-says-jose-manuel-bolieiro\/","title":{"rendered":"Government wants to continue to strengthen ties with the USA and the Azorean descent communities, says Jos\u00e9 Manuel Bolieiro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Bolieiro, emphasized today that it is the Government intention to keep \u201ca relationship of proximity\u201d with the United States of America (USA), reminding the importance of migrant communities on the east and west coasts of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Jos\u00e9 Manuel Bolieiro received this afternoon, at Pal\u00e1cio de Sant\u2019Ana, the new US ambassador to Portugal, Randi Charno Levine, that had her first official work visit to the Azores after taking office, a visit that \u201cpraises\u201d the region, stated the President of the Government.<\/p>\n<p>At the meeting, it was approached the \u201cmajor subjects that must be kept\u201d in the agenda, as the importance of Lajes Air Base or the commitment reaffirmation of \u201cpartnership and friendship between Portugal and the USA, with special focus\u201d on the Azores\u2019 role.<\/p>\n<p>The role of FLAD \u2013 Luso-American Development Foundation on the relation between the archipelago and the USA was pointed out, and Jos\u00e9 Manuel Bolieire reminded that, also in the cultural field, there are several possibilities for artistic exchange that can be explored.<\/p>\n<p>The Ambassador was accompanied at the audience in Ponta Delgada by the US Consul to the Azores, Kathryn Ryan Hammond.<\/p>\n<p>Randi Charno Levine was appointed as US Ambassador to Portugal at the end of October 2021, and has been in office for a little over a month.
